Spanning three centuries, the Akron Art Museum combines a late nineteenth-century brick and limestone building with the twenty-first century John S. & James L. The Akron Zoo, located on 50 acres just west of downtown, is one of only 214 accredited world conservation zoos by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). Not far from the urban areas of Akron and Cleveland lies the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. 33,000 acres of protected park land with diverse flora and fauna can be found along the banks of the Cuyahoga or "Crooked" River. Stan Hywet Hall/Home and Gardens includes the site of the first meeting between Bill W. and Dr. Bob in 1935. The Manor House is one of the finest examples of Tudor Revival architecture in America. The Seiberlings chose architect Charles S. Schneider to design the home for $150,000. Schneider and the Seiberlings travelled to England and visited well-known homes including Ockwell’s Manor in Berkshire, Compton Wynyates in Warwickshire and Haddon Hall in Derbyshire, influencing the design of Stan Hywet Hall.
